Information
Simply Special – that´s Helsinki
Helsinki is a special place. It´s alive with activity, enriched by historical influences from both north and west, and full of fascinating contrasts. This city, the northern-most of all the European Union capitals, blends old traditions with new millennium progress. Here, nature´s beauty is in complete harmony with high technology innovations.
Embracing Nature
The gentle Baltic sea is enjoyed even in the very centre of the city, and hundreds (thousands) of little islands making up the archipelago are paradise for sailors, fishermen and holidaymakers. On land, the lush green forests offer peace and solitude, just minutes away from the downtown area. Helsinki glories in its summer; its warmth and almost 24 hours of daylight!
During its 450 years history Helsinki has grown from a picturesque harbour village to a modern, thriving city where the quality of life is ranked as being amongst the highest in Europe.
Feel the pulse
Take a stroll through the city parks, along the busy sidewalks and enjoy a cup of coffee in one of the countless cafés. Helsinki has a special charm, a warm and friendly atmosphere, a feeling of belonging! Come, feel the pulse of this safe and happy city. Helsinki is easy to reach, by sea of air. And once you´re here, the public transportation system covers the entire city and is easy to use – that is if you don’t feel like walking!
International connections
Helsinki- Vantaa international airport covers over 130 international flights every day and is also known for its high service quality. It facilitates around 30 carriers including Finnair, SAS, Blue 1, British Airways, KLM and Lufthansa. Many years in a row, Helsinki-Vantaa airport has been rated among the best by its users. From the airport it takes only 25 minutes to Helsinki city centre.

At the time of the Congress the regions north of the Arctic Circle are characterized by 'polar days', when the sun does not set at all. This is a place which we recommend you to visit after the Congress!
Even in southern Finland, the longest day (around Midsummer) is nearly 19 hours long. This condition will also prevail during the Congress.
